For the 2026-2027 school year, all nine families who applied through MVSD's Interdistrict Elementary School Choice program will be placed at their requested school — a welcome outcome that avoids the need for a lottery. Swanton Elementary was the top choice, drawing 55.6% of applicants, followed by Highgate (33.3%) and Franklin Central (11.1%). Nearly two-thirds of applicants are incoming Kindergarteners. Separately, six MVU students have applied for high school choice under Act 129, with BFA St. Albans the most popular destination. Families cited academic programming and athletic opportunities as the top reasons for seeking a different school.
